DOES NOT CONNECT THE BRITISH BREXIT PARTY TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT FREEDOM LEADERSHIP, FREEDOM AND NATIONAL EUROPE.
“Tuesday, Nigel Farage, who earned an indefinite success in 2016 in the success of the UK referendum on EU withdrawal, and founded a new party in the bizarre way in Britain, riding a bit of discontent about the pulls around Brexit. In the EP election, 31.6 percent of the seats were elected.
Farage will once again want to form an alliance with the Five Star Movement in Italy, the League’s coalition partner, just as in the previous cycle, when their faction was the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy (EFDD). The populist Five Stars, far away from the right and left, have fallen much compared to last year’s national election success.
According to the EP rules, a minimum group of 25 members from at least seven EU Member States must be set up to create a separate group. It would be easy for the headcount by itself, as the Brexit Party won most of its mandates (29) across Europe, but it is still questionable whether the other condition can be met. However, there is still time, as the intention to form a faction must be announced by 24 June at the latest.
