Digitally rejuvenated characters from Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, including Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, the trailer for the film, released on Wednesday, gives a preview of the work, which will be released in September.
A $ 125 million original story film made by Netflix, based on the story of Frank Sheeran (Robert de Niro), a trade union official and alleged assassin, and Jimmy Hoffa, the mysteriously disappeared leader of the trucking trade union (Al Pacino).
The screenplay for the film was written by Steve Zaillian, based on Charles Brandt’s 2003 bestseller Hallom, Room Painter, which explores Sheeran’s life and relationship with the Bufalino Mafia.
In the decades-long storyline, both Oscar-winning actors appear on the screen at different ages, perfected not only by makeup but also by VFX digital technology. The digital rejuvenation technique was developed by Industrial Light & Magic, a company founded by George Lucas, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The result is particularly impressive for Robert de Niro, who has been rejuvenated for over 30 years.
Other actors in the film include Joe Pesci, Anna Paquin, Bobby Cannavale, Ray Romano, Sebastian Maniscalco and Harvey Keitel, who also used this digital technology.
The film’s cinematographer is Rodrigo Prieto, who has worked with Scorses on Wall Street Wolf and Silence. Prieto was nominated for an Oscar for his recent work, as well as his cinematographic work for Brokeback Mountain – Beyond Friendship. The film’s editor is Thelma Schoonmaker, a three-time Oscar-winning editor who has long worked with Scorses.
