According to the Transport & Environment study, 203 ships in European waters in 2017 emitted 62 kilotonnes of sulfur oxide (SOx),
damaging the human respiratory system, acidifying the terrestrial and aquatic environment.
More than half of the 62 kilotons of sulfur oxide were reportedly produced by 47 vessels operated by Carnival Cruise Lines or its subsidiaries.
